history

Renowned photographer, David W. Lewis M.Photog.,Cr.,MPA.,CPA. is recognized  internationally as one of  the last surviving masters of the pigment-control processes of the oil, bromoil and transfer. He is without a doubt the world's leading authority on the history and practice and exhibitor of  these processes.

David's award winning work  is housed in major art galleries, museums and corporations worldwide and he has been honored with numerous solo exhibitions throughout North America, Europe and Asia.  In the past 30 plus years David has conducted hundreds of master class workshops and is no doubt responsible for the revival of these almost lost art forms.

His fully illustrated hardcover book " THE ART OF BROMOIL & TRANSFER" is still considered the most definitive book on the process.  David Lewis is the sole manufacturer and supplier in the world that carries a complete line of materials for the bromoil and transfer processes.

His most recent book, "Corporate Wasteland" was published in 2007 by Cornell University Press in the USA and Between the Lines in Canada, it is now available from the author or amazon.com. "The Passion Pit" a b/w hardcover book, is a tribute to the drive-in movie theatre, it is also available from David or David Mirvish Books in Toronto, Ontario.

David is currently seeking out abandoned mines and saw mills throughout North America and would like to hear from interested parties whom would be interested in sharing their knowledge for the location of these sites with him. He travels regularly to West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Montana and Oregon. If you love visiting or photographing these old historic sites, David would welcome your company on a shoot.
